Woven by Joseph, an artisan from the Luangwa Artisan Collective in Zambia. These unique Rasta pendant lights add an instant sense of interest, and a fabulous focal point whether in home, boutique lodge, office or hospitality outlet. With the finest ilala palm fronds carefully split to form woven wisps and elegant tendrils, they add instant height on top of a console, against a feature wall, nestled in a cove as a statement piece, or bundled together for the ultimate wow factor chandelier.
Ilala palm is indigenous to Zimbabwe and grown in dry and sandy areas. They are non-invasive, plentiful and readily available. The fibrous leaves, once dried, are naturally cream in colour. The leaves can be stripped and sliced to either create a fine or thick fibre dependent on the style of the piece they are producing. Any colour introduced is plant-based using the roots, bark and leaves of plants to create an organic dye.
The artisans from Luangwa Artisan Collective are independent artisans that work out from Tribal Textiles, and all sale proceeds go directly to them and their families. We train those local artists in product development and business skills such as merchandising, accounting and pricing. We work with them to create beautiful products and give them access to local and global market places.
